Caste Identity in India
The caste system seems distant in it's influence over our day to day lives or are we just privileged enough to live in concrete jungles that supposedly shield us from discrimination? People in India continue to define their self-identity by means of the caste they belong to and the circumstantial social group that they find themselves in. Caste membership is thus ingrained in the society as one of the most subtle yet conspicuous identities in the Indian context.
Where does the line of caste being part of our identity blur into caste dominating our identity and circumstances? While some live a life oblivious to it, others consciously bear the burden of their caste identity. Exploring the history and present caricatures drawn about their caste and its influence on their identity, our authors narrate their perspectives and experiences with caste.
